The overarching aim of The Lancet One Health Commission is to synthesize the evidence supporting a One Health approach to enhancing health within an environment shared by humans and animals.
The commission’s work will explicate the significance of a One Health approach for policy, by engaging transdisciplinary expertise and perspectives from both the public and private sectors.
From this follows our objectives:
01
To synthesize evidence for the value of an integrated approach to multispecies health with respect to:
- the shared environment
- safe food systems and resources, and
- shared medicines and interventions, with an emphasis on infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and antimicrobial resistance
02
To identify stakeholders and motivating factors for their participation in an integrated approach to multispecies health and suggested strategies to engage with them.
03
To produce policy recommendations and enabling strategies to accelerate mainstreaming of an integrated approach to multispecies health.
04
To propose an investment framework for an integrated approach to multispecies health.
05
The One Health concept recognizes the complex interconnectedness and interdependence of humans, animals, and the environment that we share. The One Health approach aims to demonstrate the synergistic benefit of closer cooperation between the human, animal, and environmental health sciences, as well as the importance of dismantling disciplinary and professional silos. This work is vital for ensuring a sustainably reconnected approach to defending and enhancing the health of humans, animals, and our shared environment.

The Lancet One Health Commission envisions a world of equitable, sustainable, and healthy socioecological systems.
